Soren Carlbergg - Artist Statement
The intrigue of line, form, colour, movement, and how it relates to "us" remains the focus of vision in current work.
Pure abstract allows the use of the elements to raise the imagination and viewers vision to their 'own' experience. The use of forms, organic or otherwise, humanoid, plantoid, celloid, mechanical etc., combined with colour, composed, can relate to our subconscious.
We are encouraged to look beyond the world we know, see, smell, feel and hear - try and grab an understanding of something that we were not programmed to recognize - we now know that we live in a multi dimensional world, but there are so many dimensions that we can't access because of our limited senses - we do however have imagination.
As an artist, my current interest is in trying to interpret other dimensions - making available an understandable arrangement of ideas that have been transformed into a comprehensible experience.
With the use of simple painterly tools (line, form, colour and movement) onto a two dimensional plane, one can create a depth that is infinite, that one can look 'into'. Where all these elements, are working together and apart simultaneously, relating, not only to themselves but sometimes to each other, where their paths or 'dimensions' may cross, occasionally with consequence but often without - oblivious to their own 'cause and effect', existing somehow in a universe or universes, with the only possible shared effect of gravity.
In addition to conventional painting techniques, extra dimension has been aided by applying the ideas to anodised aluminium. The special paints & dyes used with this process are semi-transparent and have a chroma that is electric in its effect, resulting in the feeling that one is viewing something from another world - images of a place that we may someday understand.
